Before You Ever Step in Front of the Camera

If you’ve never done a boudoir session before, you’re not alone. One of the first things we hear is, “I’ve always wanted to do this, but I have no idea what actually happens.” The truth is, most people walk through our door feeling at least a little nervous. They wonder if they’ll know how to pose, if they’ll feel awkward, or if they’ll like the way they look in the photographs. Those feelings are completely normal. By the end of the session, most clients tell us they forgot they were nervous at all.
Before You Arrive
Every session begins long before the camera comes out. We’ll talk about your vision, the style of photographs you’re drawn to, wardrobe ideas, and any questions or concerns you may have. Some clients arrive with a suitcase full of outfits. Others bring just a few carefully chosen pieces. There’s no right or wrong approach. Together, we’ll create a plan that feels authentic to you. Our goal is for you to arrive feeling prepared, not overwhelmed.
Welcome to the Studio
When you arrive, we’ll spend a few minutes getting to know each other before we begin. We’ll look through your wardrobe together, discuss the order of your outfits, and talk about the mood you’d like each set of photographs to have. This isn’t a race to start taking pictures. We want you to have time to settle in, take a deep breath, and feel comfortable in the space.
Hair, Makeup, and the Finishing Touches
Many clients choose to include professional hair and makeup because it’s a relaxing way to ease into the experience. Others prefer to do their own. Either choice is completely fine. What matters most is that you feel like yourself. We aren’t trying to create a version of you that no one recognizes. We simply want you to feel your best.
“I Don’t Know How to Pose.”
This is probably the biggest concern we hear, and it’s also the easiest one to solve. You don’t need to know how to pose. Seriously. We’ll guide you through everything. From where to place your hands and how to angle your shoulders to where to look and when to smile, every pose is demonstrated and adjusted as we go. Small movements often make the biggest difference, and we’ll help you find the angles that feel both flattering and natural. You are never expected to perform. You simply have to show up.
Building Confidence One Photograph at a Time
The first 15 minutes is the hardest, but that is true if we were photographing an engagement session or a portrait session. We don’t expect you to feel completely relaxed the moment the session begins. Most people don’t. The first few photographs are often about finding your rhythm, getting comfortable, and realizing that this isn’t nearly as intimidating as you imagined.
As the session continues, something begins to change. You stop thinking about where your hands are. You stop wondering if you’re doing it right. You begin to laugh more. You move more naturally. You become present in the moment. That’s when the most meaningful photographs usually happen.
Seeing Yourself Differently
Throughout the session, we’ll occasionally show you a few images on the back of the camera. Not because we’re looking for approval, but because we love watching the moment when someone says, “Wait… that’s really me?” It’s one of our favorite parts of the day. Not because we’re revealing something that wasn’t there before, but because you’re seeing yourself without the filter of self-criticism that so many of us carry every day.
Every Session Is Different
Some sessions are quiet and reflective. Others are filled with conversation and laughter. Some clients bring champagne, a favorite playlist, or meaningful personal items. Others simply enjoy the experience of slowing down for a few hours and focusing on themselves. There isn’t a right way to experience boudoir. The session becomes whatever feels genuine to you.
After the Session
Once your session is complete, we’ll carefully edit your photographs to reflect the style and artistry we’ve created together. Our editing is thoughtful and natural. We believe you should still look like you. Temporary distractions may disappear, but the features that make you unique are never something we’re trying to erase.
When your gallery is ready, you’ll have the opportunity to view your images and choose how you’d like to preserve them, whether that’s through digital photographs, a handcrafted album, wall art, or fine art prints.
It’s About More Than the Pictures
People often arrive believing they’re booking a photo session. They leave realizing they experienced something much more personal. For a few hours, you stepped away from the expectations of work, family, responsibilities, and comparison. You gave yourself permission to simply exist without trying to be anything other than yourself. The photographs become a reminder of that experience. Not because they changed who you are. Because they remind you of who you’ve been all along.
