Every element of the Labrot Boudoir experience is intentional, including our logo. While many people choose a symbol simply because it’s beautiful, we wanted something that reflected the heart of what we believe. The dragonfly has carried meaning across cultures for centuries, representing transformation, wisdom, resilience, and clarity. More than anything, it reminds us that growth is not about becoming someone new—it’s about revealing what has always been there.
At first glance, the dragonfly seems like an unlikely symbol for a boudoir studio. It is delicate, graceful, and almost weightless as it moves through the air. Yet its story is one of extraordinary change. A dragonfly spends the majority of its life beneath the surface of the water, unseen. When the time is right, it emerges, unfolds its wings, and takes flight. It has not become a different creature. It has simply stepped into the next chapter of its life.
That distinction is important to us because it reflects the philosophy behind every session we photograph. We don’t believe confidence is something a camera creates. We don’t believe beauty is something a photographer gives to another person. Instead, we believe that beauty, confidence, and strength already exist. Sometimes they simply become difficult to recognize beneath years of comparison, expectations, self-criticism, or the stories we’ve learned to believe about ourselves.
A boudoir session doesn’t transform you into someone else. It creates the opportunity to pause long enough to recognize the person who has been there all along. The photographs are not the transformation. They are the reminder.
The dragonfly also represents perspective. Its extraordinary vision allows it to see the world in ways few other creatures can. That symbolism resonates deeply with us because so much of our work is about changing perspective. Most people spend years seeing themselves through the eyes of others or through an inner voice that rarely offers kindness. Our hope is that, even for a moment, you’ll see yourself with greater honesty, compassion, and appreciation than you ever have before.
Across the world, the dragonfly carries different meanings, yet they all seem to point in a similar direction. In Japan, it symbolizes courage, strength, and moving forward with purpose. Samurai admired the dragonfly because it flies forward rather than backward, making it a symbol of determination and victory. Native American traditions often associate dragonflies with healing, renewal, and the purity of water, while some believe they carry messages from loved ones who have passed. In Chinese culture, the dragonfly is a symbol of harmony, prosperity, and good fortune.
Although these traditions are unique, they share a common thread. The dragonfly reminds us that change is natural, perspective is powerful, and there is beauty in embracing the person we are becoming.
For us, the dragonfly is more than a logo. It is a quiet reflection of why Labrot Boudoir exists. Every time you see it, we hope it serves as a reminder that your worth has never depended on perfection. You don’t need to become someone different before stepping in front of the camera. You don’t need to earn confidence or prove your beauty.
You simply need the opportunity to see yourself a little more clearly.
Because the person you’re looking for has been there all along.
